DIEGO MARADONA'S DOCTOR CHARGED FOR INVOLUNTARY HOMICIDE

Diego  Maradona's doctor is the subject of a manslaughter investigation four days after the football idol died of cardiac arrest at his home, Argentinian news agency Telam reported on Sunday.

Police raided Leopoldo Luque's office and home on Sunday in search of evidence of possible professional negligence, according to images broadcast by television and judicial sources cited by the Argentine agency.

A few hours after Diego Maradona's death, his lawyer and friend Matias Morla denounced on Thursday the fact that "the ambulance [had] taken more than half an hour to reach the house where he was". He warned that he would go "to the end" of possible procedures to identify possible faults. But neither he nor any member of the family has yet lodged a complaint, a judicial source told AFP.

An investigation has indeed been opened, but "because it is a matter of a deceased person at home and no one signed his death certificate.

This does not mean that there are suspicions of irregularities", the same source said, on condition of anonymity. The 1986 world champion died Wednesday at the age of 60 from "secondary acute pulmonary edema and exacerbated chronic heart failure".

He was at his home in Tigre, a town 30 km north of Buenos Aires, where he had been living since November 11, after being released from a clinic where he had been operated on six days earlier for a bruise on his head.
