"We currently have completely different problems than empty stadiums," said the professional from FC Bayern Munich to the news portal "t-online.de". "We all want to have our normal lives back first. And when I think about changes, I don't think about football first," added the 34-year-old.
Neuer is currently particularly sympathetic to the children in Germany who, due to the pandemic, cannot do sports regularly in their home clubs. "Of course I'm sorry for you," said the four-time world goalkeeper. "It's incredibly difficult to motivate children in your own four walls. It's a difficult situation for everyone, but especially for children who have to stay at home and don't have much space."
That's why he tried to give them exercises to take at home on social media platforms. "As a footballer, I feel it is my duty to give something back to the children - especially in the current situation," said the keeper, who is committed to helping children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in the "Manuel Neuer Kids Foundation".
