“We were triggered by several doctors who are actually receiving threats in different ways and through different channels - and I received them myself. These threats usually emanate from movements of conspiracy theories or denials, anti-masks or anti-vaccines, and can easily reach death threats ", reported the general practitioner to RFI.

"This is absolutely unacceptable. I receive threats saying that I will be hanged or that my life will be extinguished. And other doctors have received threats from structures that can be found on the internet where they are asked to stop working, not to start vaccination , because at that time they would become outlaws and be prosecuted. Things like that are not admissible in the period we are living in and that are also not admissible outside this moment ", pointed out the doctor.

Why is the pressure increasing on doctors?

"the new coronavirus has been installed in this pandemic for twelve months, so the conspiracy movements have had enough time to develop".

"The vaccine has also become a tool for political instrumentation. People are told that if someone gets the vaccine, that person will be supporting the government. They say you are going to kill people because there is an international conspiracy to eradicate a whole part of the population, "replied the doctor.

"It is a very long crisis. The problem is that doctors who normally receive this type of threat prefer not to talk about it. My position is different because I am more exposed in the media, but I ask professionals and society to take this seriously and, in the case of doctors who are threatened, to file a complaint immediately, to go to the security forces and their union, "said Marty.
