Police Officer and 6 others Killed By Armed Robbers

A police officer, Remilekun’s corpse, conveyed in a hearse from the Isanlu Mortuary, was followed by sympathisers to a cemetery in her hometown, Ekinrin-Adde, where she was buried.

The deceased’s sister, who is also a policewoman serving in Ekiti State, identified only as Ibidun, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that the manner of Remilekun’s death was painful.

“We are sad with what happened. But we rest our hope in God. We trust Him to protect us and the only son she left behind,” Ibidun stated.

Tears flowed freely from the eyes of sympathisers as the white casket bearing the policewoman’s remains were lowered into the grave.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has released the sum of N10m for the burial rites of the victims of the Isanlu bank robbery.

Eight police officers and three civilians were killed last Thursday when the sleepy town of Isanlu came under attack from the men of the underworld.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Edward Ojona, said the monetary support was delivered on behalf of the governor by his deputy to the state Commissioner of Police, Ede Ayuba, who received it on behalf of the families.

“Also present was the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Arike; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Government, Sunday Faleke; the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mukadem Asiwaju; and the State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara,” the statement said.

The governor stated that plans had been concluded to bring the Isanlu Police Station to standard.
