George Floyd's Death Protest; Minnesota Governor Seeks the intervention of National Guards

George Floyd's Death stirs up Protest in Minnesota

Minnesota governor Tim Walz has called on the National Guard to intervene after protesters clashed with the police for the third consecutive day to protest the death of George Floyd, a black man killed by a police officer who kept him stuck for  minutes with his knee on his neck causing him to suffocate. after he clamoured for his life.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who asked that the police officers involved in the accident be punished, requested assistance. The third district police station, which was at the center of the demonstrations, was set on fire yesterday evening, according to local news media and videos posted on social media. Previously, a large crowd had gathered in a square outside the Hennepin County government center, invoking the name of George Floyd and demanding that the officers involved in his arrest be punished.

The demonstrations started peacefully last night but became tense when riot police officers approached the protesters who yelled at them and the police fired tear gas at the crowd. Protests in nearby St. Paul have also become violent, with some people breaking shop windows. The U.S. Justice Department said it had made investigations a priority, assigning experienced prosecutors and FBI criminal investigators to the case to investigate whether the officers intentionally violated Floyd's civil rights.

it is imperative that the community understand how seriously we are taking the case and how fast we are moving,

"said US prosecutor Erica MacDonald.

The first to speak about the national guard was the US president, Donld Trump, who denounced the "total absence of leadership" of the city mayor in the face of violence, looting and fires set on fire. "I cannot stand by and watch what is happening in a major American city, Minneapolis," Trump wrote, pointing his finger at the first citizen, Jacob Frey: "Either he intervenes and brings the city under control or I will send the National Guard and I will do what must be done. "

"These things  are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I will not allow that to happen - he continued - I just talked to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the army is with him. In case of difficulty we will take control but, when the looting starts, you start shooting. Thanks! "
