Actor Michael Jace, best known for playing a policeman on the TV series "The Shield," was sentenced on Friday to 40 years imprisonment for shooting his better half dead before the his two children at their Los Angeles home, a court official said.
Michael, 53, got a credit of 754 days served for his time spent in detention since his capture for the May 2014 killing, Los Angeles criminal court agent Melody Ramirez said.
Ramirez said relatives of the casualty, April Jace, gave an emotional talk in court on Friday, however she couldn't give transcripts.
The actor was disturbed that his wife wanted divorce when he shot her once in the back and twice more in the legs, as indicated by prosecutors.
He then called the police and reported that he had shot his wife, prosecutors said. The couple's children, ages 8 and 5 at the time, watched the killing in the family's South Los Angeles home, prosecutors said. She was 40 years of age when she was killed.
Jace's lawyers recognized in court that he shot his better half, contending rather that the shooting was not planned. Jace was indicted second-degree murder, a purposeful killing that was not planned, in May.
