The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, headquartered in Rivers State, has accused the state governor, Nyesom Wike, of trying to compromise the army in the general elections over the weekend.
The army at a press briefing, played an audio recording claiming it was the voice of Governor Wike.
Punch reports that the army attempted to parade a group of persons arrested for alleged involvement in election malpractice, and that was when the drama began.
The individuals, including Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development, Reason Onyia, a soldier identified as Major Ubah, a police officer identified as Owen who is said to be the camp commandant of the Government House in Port Harcourt, and some INEC ad-hoc staff, claimed the army lied against them.
The alleged suspects, led by Onyia, made a scene while the Deputy Director of the Army Public Relations, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, spoke on the alleged offenses.
Wike and some other INEC ad-hoc staff had accused the army of intimidation and disruption of the election.
